The Kids Q is open to all kids under 18 years old. Not 18, UNDER 18.
There is just 1 Category at this event, Chicken. This can be any cut of Chicken and turned in in any way.
The entries MUST be prepared, cooked and plated by the Kid. The parents/adults may supervise and assist with the fire and help out as needed, but this is an event for the kids, so lets get them as involved as we can. They may cook using a gas or charcoal grill.
All Entries MUST be able to be carried & turned in by the Kid them self, no Huge platters that require 2 people to carry. One platter that the Kid can carry by themself is sufficient enough.
Appearance is important. Entries will be judged on Appearance, Taste & Texture. Have fun and enjoy this part of the competition.
Fee is FREE if Parent is cooking in competition or $25 per entry if parents are not cooking.
This event will NOT be judged KCBS or IBCA style, it is a fun side event that the City of Chandler & AZBarbeque are sponsoring.
This is a FUN event, encourage your kids to participate. You may register multiple kids, but they each have to do their own thing.
We look forward to seeing the entries and have fun.
Please contact us here if your child plans on competing in this portion of the event.
Backyard Division Rules:
At this event, we will once again have a Saturday Backyard Division.
Here are the rules for this division.
Saturday Backyard Throw Down Division: This Division is a fun division, and cooks can cook by any method, propane, charcoal, wood, smoke, crock pot, dutch oven, etc.
Chicken: This can be any type or kind of Chicken, Thighs, Drums, Whole, Half, Breast, etc. Must have 6 Separate Pieces for the Judges (All Pieces should be the same, ie 6 thighs, 6 drums, etc.) You are responsible for your own Turn in Platter/Tray, etc.
Best Burger: Once again, be creative. These MUST be prepared on site and you need to turn in 6 separate Burgers. They can have condiments on them, lettuce, Tomato, etc. It’s your choice, make up the burgers all your family and friends rave about.
Carne Asada – We will be looking for uniqueness here, so not only are we looking at how well the Carne Asada tastes, but also what the presentation looks like and what you have included with it. Here is what our Judges will have to help them, so please look at it and use it as a base.

These can be prepared offsite and brought to the event. They MUST be cooked at the event. Teams are responsible for their own Turn in Platters/Trays.
Salsa – Must be something you made, it cannot be purchased. This can be made ahead of time as we know some salsa takes a while to properly ferment. Please have enough for 6 judges to taste. You can have them in 6 individual containers or set up some other fun way.
If you have any questions on any of these rules, please post them in the discussion topic here.
I’m really looking forward to seeing all the great entries and food. Good Luck to all of you.
